A gate driver generally refers to a power supply that applies a certain drive current to the gate-source junction of a field-effect transistor (FET) or other switch. It serves to rapidly switch the gate voltage to positively (for N-channel FETs) or negatively (for P-channel FETs) value from zero volts.
