LM5109AMAX

The LM5109AMAX is a general-motor-drive power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that provides high-speed flexibility and protection of slow- and medium-speed power management applications. It is a family of devices that provide three-phase gate drives with adjustable pulse widths, low-side gate and push (SOFT) outputs, closed-loop operations, and a regulated gate drive voltage. The LM5109AMAX is ideal for automotive applications, industrial and wind turbine/solar power generation applications.

The LM5109AMAX gate driver, categorized as PMIC - Gate Driver, consists of three identical, programmable gate driver channels with Schmitt trigger inputs, programmable supply voltage of 5 to 27V, and an external current limit resistor that can be set to limit the output current.

The three different channels of the LM5109AMAX provide three-phase, simultaneous driving of an IGBT or MOSFET for three-phase motor control applications. There are two types of gate drivers; high-side and low-side. The high-side gate driver contains a bootstrap capacitor and a control logic for monitoring and controlling the gate voltage for the high-side IGBT/MOSFET. The low-side gate driver consists of a control logic that drives the low-side gate directly from the supply voltage.

The operation of the LM5109AMAX is through the pre-programmed three-phase driving profile. This pre-programmed profile can be configured in two ways; output can be either equal to or greater than the input signal. If the output is equal to the input signal, then the output of the LM5109AMAX will be equal to the period of the PWM signal, otherwise the output will be greater than the period of the PWM signal.

The programmable inputs of the LM5109AMAX, allow the user to set advanced delay times, slew rate adjustment and adjustable pulse widths. As a result, the output of the device can be configured to the user’s requirements. In addition, the device does not need external components such as resistors, diodes and zener diodes for protection. Thus, eliminating related cost and space requirements.
