The LM5110-1M/NOPB is a gate driver integrated circuit (IC) for advanced power management. It is a monolithic, low-voltage half-bridge gate driver designed for automotive powertrain applications such as DC/DC converters, motors and loads. The device has two independent circuits, each capable of driving two N-channel MOSFETs or two equivalent power devices from a single 5 V supply. The module deals with high current and power switching design requirements without the use of an external low-side MOSFET driver and can drive external loads up to 12 A. The device is fully protected against over-current and over-temperature fault conditions. Furthermore, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection is provided to ensure safe operation of the device.

The device also has integrated thermal protection, establishing a thermal limit for the gate driver IC by sensing the junction temperature of the IC. The device also features integrated fault detect and logic enable pins, which when asserted, give a fault signal to the system controller.
The LM5110-1M/NOPB gate driver is capable of driving single, dual and three phase, low-side and high-side N-Channel MOSFET power switches, along with other power devices such as IGBTs, SiCs, MOSFETs, or any other specialized power switch. The device provides a slew rate control which can be set to provide a soft turn on and off of the power switch, thus minimizing audible noise due to the switching. The device also features a built-in loop compensation, which shortens the time required to stabilize the current loop, and an integrated gate pull-down circuit which provides a low impedance path to ground when the device is disabled.
In addition, the device includes a startup circuit which increases the voltage at the gate of the power switch to allow faster turn-on. The startup circuit has under-voltage lockout protection which prevents the device from turning on when the power supply voltage is too low. The device also provides an enable pin, which when asserted will turn-on the internal switch and allow for current to flow between the power switch and the load.
