Power Factor Correction (PFC) is a technology used to ensure that the current and voltage between devices remain in phase. PFC is a type of power-conditioning circuitry that assists with maintaining a specified load or power factor by reducing irrelevant harmonics or other factors that can affect the load and power factor. PFC is used to help regulate voltage, reduce power losses due to electromagnetic interference (EMI), and increase power efficiency.

The PFS7524H is a monolithic CMOS PFC controller IC, designed to be used in AC/DC converters and switching power supplies. It features advanced features like auto-restart, soft-start, current fold-back, over/under voltage/temperature protection and many more, making it a dependable system controller. This feature allows the PFC stage to recover in a very short period of time after any fault has occurred, ensuring that the converter’s efficiency is maximized. When the PFC stage fails, the auto-restart will bypass the PFC stage, allowing the converter to continue to maintain the load. The auto-restart will then slowly switch the PFC back in, allowing for a smooth start-up.

In addition, the PFS7524H acquires a voltage feed-back signal from the auxiliary windings of a flyback converter. It then adjusts the power factor through the modulation of the primary current based on the voltage changes. This feature provides great flexibility and system stability when dealing with high efficiency, wide range input and output applications.

The PFS7524H also features a low start-up current which allows the chip to be powered on without any initial current. This makes it suitable for applications where high current is not available, such as in battery powered systems. Additionally, the PFS7524H has an advanced overload protection system which allows it to be shut down before it gets damaged in the event of an over current or over voltage situation.
