1N5646A is a transient voltage suppressor diode (TVS) which is used in electronic circuits to protect them from overvoltage transients. The 1N5646A diode is an unidirectional device and it is also commonly used to protect circuits from ESD (electrostatic discharge). It has a storage temperature range between -65°C and +150°C. In the avalanche breakdown mode, a high electric field is created which causes electrons to gain enough energy that they can break free from their orbits and create electron-hole pairs. At the avalanche voltage, the diode becomes conducting and the voltage drops back to a safe level for the electronic circuit.The 1N5646A diode is suitable for use in various applications. It is used in circuits which require protection from electrostatic discharge, voltage spikes caused by lightning or other electro-mechanical phenomena.
