Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diodes have been designed specifically to protect circuits from excess voltages caused by transients, also known as electrical spikes, by clamping action. Among those, the 1N6468 type is one of the more popular choices due to its single-line unidirectional protection.
When using the 1N6468 for an application, it is important to take adequate consideration of the characteristics it offers. First of all, the peak power rating for this device is 600, 700, or 800 W, depending on the on-state current associated with each pulse and the maximum forward voltage. This level of power rating is quite favorable for most applications since it is twice as high as that of the common 1N400x diode series.
