Working Principle for 2N5061RLRA

The 2N5061RLRA is an SCR device, which is based on pin configuration that makes the device easy to use in any application. It works on an open loop configuration with anode and cathode pinout, which makes it suitable for medium power and AC switching applications. The working principle consist of three chains of operation, i.e. Off-state, Forward-Blocking-state and On-state. In the OFF state, the SCR is open due to a reverse bias applied to it, whereby current flow between anode and cathode is avoided. In the Forward-Blocking-state, a forward bias must be applied in order to close the SCR. This results in a need for a voltage spike for operation, namely, the "gate" voltage, to turn on the SCR. During the On-State, the current starts to flow from the anode to the cathode, in the same direction with respect to the voltage applied to the SCR.

Once the SCR is turned on, the current continues to pass even when the gate voltage is removed and the device is said to be latched on to the state in which it has already been turned on. The only way to turn off the SCR is to remove the voltage applied across its anode and cathode pins and then it goes off automatically by a reverse current.
