2N5064G is one of the most widely used thyristors - SCRs (silicon-controlled rectifiers). It is a 4-pin device which consists of two junction diodes and two SCRs which are connected in inverse parallel. The 2N5064G is mainly used for controlling alternating current, typically up to 660V at 10A. Thyristors - SCRs are semiconductor devices comprised of several layers of alternating N-type and P-type materials. When a small current is applied, parts of the device become electrically conductive. This allows the SCR to control much larger currents; the full load current passes through the SCR when it is in the ON state.The primary application of 2N5064G is rectification, allowing alternating current (AC) to be converted into direct current (DC). This is achieved by having an alternating current flow in one direction through the device during the positive half-cycle of an AC waveform and in the opposite direction during the negative half-cycle. This ensures that only a DC signal passes through the device. The 2N5064G is also used for power switching applications, allowing it to be used for controlling the flow of electricity to an appliance or circuit.
