A 2N5172 is a single bipolar junction transistor (BJT). It is primarily intended for use in medium-power, high frequency amplifier applications. The 2N5172 consists of a two-layer semiconductor material with three terminals, namely the base (B), collector (C) and emitter (E). The transistor has three heavily doped PN layers, P-type, N-type and P-type. A small current injected through the base can control the larger current flowing through the collector and emitter.
