The AOB1608L is a high-performance and low-cost logic-level enhancement mode Field-Effect Transistor (FET) with 12V drain voltage, 3A drain current and 30V maximum gate-source voltage ratings. It is an essential component used in a wide range of circuits, either as an input stage in buffer applications or as a single switch in high-current power supply systems.

The device is constructed with a polyethylene-oxide-based semiconductor, eliminating the need for a physical substrate. The source and drain are connected to the gate with a metal-dielectric layer as an isolating element, and with an electrolyte gate dielectric. The gate dielectric can be either air or some other gas, such as nitrogen or sulfur hexafluoride, depending on the application requirements.

The working principle of the AOB1608L is based on the application of a voltage difference between the gate and the source. The electric field generated induces a current between the gate and the drain. This current is then amplified by a high-impedance resistor connected in series to the drain and the gate. When a voltage is applied to the gate, it turns on the FET, allowing current to flow in between the drain and the source.

When the AOB1608L is used in a buffer application, it functions as a voltage follower. It amplifies the input voltage difference between the gate and the source, which produces a voltage at the drain that is larger than the gate voltage. This increase in voltage is then used to power an amplifier or other similar device.

The AOB1608L is also commonly used as a single switch in high-current power supply systems. When a voltage is applied to the gate, current flows between the source and the drain, thus turning on the device. When the voltage is removed, the device turns off and no current flows, thus isolating the source and the drain.
