Working Principle

In general, linear voltage regulating works through a feedback mechanism. The regulator has two inputs: an input voltage (Vin) and a reference voltage (Vref). The regulator controls the output voltage by comparing the reference voltage to the input voltage. If the input voltage is higher than the reference voltage, then the regulator reduces the output voltage to bring it closer to the reference voltage. On the other hand, if the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage, then it increases the output voltage to bring it closer to the reference voltage.
