It is designed to regulate the DC supply voltage that is used for different voltage levels of withstanding and working voltages, used for the selected ICs and components. This Linear Voltage Regulators has a wide range of applications in today’s high-tech world.
The ISL9000AIRBJZ is a three-terminal linear regulator with an integrated transistor, a power monitor, and various support circuits necessary to provide a linear regulated output. It is well suited for device power control in sensor, communication and other low voltage systems, including single-cell and multi-cell battery operated systems.
Its input can range from 3V to 24V and output voltage range is from 0.8V to 15V. It has an automatic changeover to high-side regulation at light loads, allowing it to easily switch between a directly regulated output and a indirectly regulated output in differential mode, which results in exceptional efficiency and very low noise output for DC/DC conversion and charge management applications.
Because of the advantage of its unbeatable combination of features, this high-performance regulator is ideal for a wide variety of power supply design. It provides an additional standby voltage, adjustable outputs voltage, supply voltage monitors, and skip modes for always-on or always-off features, along with a low shutdown current circuit and a thermal shutdown circuit.
The underlying operational principle for the ISL9000AIRBJZ is the same for all Linear Voltage Regulators. An external DC supply powers the regulator circuit and a regulated voltage level is then maintained on the regulator output using feedback. The internal comparator adjusts the regulator output voltage by changing the size of the reference voltage applied to the feedback pin.
The internal power MOSFET is then operated in one of two modes, either for a high side regulation in which the MOSFET is connected between the power input and ground or a low side regulation in which the MOSFET is connected between the power input and the output. In either case, the power MOSFET is operated in a closed-loop manner.
The low side regulation approach provides the highest efficiency because the internal power MOSFET can operate in a linear mode and thus can contribute to the dynamic characteristics of the circuit. In addition, it is also possible to take advantage of the open-drain capability of the MOSFET to implement load current control and load line control.
The ISL9000AIRBJZ offers various support circuits to achieve better performance. Its internal power monitor circuit has a functional diagnostic output to detect a sudden power source change and shut-down the internal circuit. Also, it features a soft-start capacitor that prevents the output voltage from overshooting the predetermined set value when the power is turned on, and a thermal shutdown circuit that indicates that the output voltage is too high and needs to be turned off.
The ISL9000AIRBJZ is provided in an 8-pin SOT-23 package and is fully compliant to the ISO/IEC 11889 PMIC 3 standard. It operates over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +125°C and can cover a wide range of output current up to 1.5A.
