The ISL9502AHRZ-T is part of the DC-DC switching controllers family in the voltage regulator section of PMIC (Power Management IC). It is a synchronous rectified step-down switching controller that provides high-performance, high-current, and wide input voltage range, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including DC-DC converters, automotive, mobile and industrial systems.

The ISL9502AHRZ-T features combination of intelligent features, including a voltage mode controller with phase slowdown, an integrated low-side switch and current sense amplifier, foldback current limit protection, and analog regulation function, as well as integrated PWM leading-edge blanking (LEB). It utilizes an advanced step-down voltage mode architecture with internal current and voltage programming loop compensation and is fully protected by thermal shutdown and overvoltage protection.

ISL9502AHRZ-T has a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 38V and efficient regulation from 0.8V to versus output current up to 10A. It’s operating frequency is adjustable from 100kHz to 800kHz and has accurately programmable soft-start. The core of the ISL9502AHRZ-T is a synchronous rectifier step-down switching controller. It includes a power switch, a synchronous rectifier switch, and a voltage mode loop control circuit. It reduces power losses in the system by switching the power switch to P-channel MOSFET and turning on the synchronous rectifier switch to P-MOSFET as well. The voltage mode loop control circuit measures the voltage and determines when to switch the power and synchronous rectifier switches on and off. Each time the power and synchronous rectifier switches are turned on, the voltage mode loop control circuit compares the actual voltage to the desired voltage and this difference is used to adjust the switching frequency to achieve the desired output voltage.

The PWM LEB further reduces the output voltage ripple and noise by suppressing the PWM pulses during peak inductor current and voltage. The current sense amplifier senses the inductor current and protects against overcurrent faults by limiting the current to a programmed value. The integrated regulation function provides analog regulation from 0.8V to eliminate the need for external voltage references. The input voltage feed forward increases efficiency under transient load conditions by compensating for voltage drops in the power switch and inductor.

The ISL9502AHRZ-T is suitable for a wide range of DC-DC topology applications, including buck converters, boost converters, minus buck-boost converters and SEPIC converters.
