The LM5025BSDX is a high efficiency, high performance, synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with a switching frequency range of 200kHz to 2MHz, responding to minimum change of 0.2V. The LM5025BSDX provides feature-rich design without compromising flexibility and efficiency with excellent thermal performance. The LM5025BSDX can operate with a wide variety of multiple integrated circuit technologies, from low power μAmp output to large wattage mW output. It also provides many protection features and adjustable fault conditions, addressing diversity of demanding application requirements.

Working Principle

The LM5025BSDX is a high performance switching regulator using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to accurately control the output voltage. It also features advanced regulation techniques, making it suitable for applications that require very tight regulation. The current limit and frequency are adjustable, allowing the user to tailor the output voltage and ramp up or down. The wide input voltage range of up to 100V is supported. The LM5025BSDX has a variety of features including auto-soft-start and short circuit protection for further system optimization.

The device operates in either synchronous or asynchronous mode. In synchronous operation, the device turns on both the high side and low side gate drivers simultaneously, switching their respective FETs in order to produce the output voltage. Asynchronous mode is used in applications with a low input voltage, where the device turns on one FET and then the other, resulting in a more efficient solution. The device also supports pulse-by-pulse current limiting, output voltage over-voltage protection and soft start.

In addition, the LM5025BSDX is integrated with a feature to enable low noise operation. This feature is called Dynamic Frequency Compensation (DFC). When enabled, the device will adjust the switching frequency according to the output voltage, eliminating the need for large components used in traditional implementations. The switching frequency of the LM5025BSDX can be adjusted with the minimum change of 0.2 V.

The LM5025BSDX also features pin-strapping options to reduce external components and enhance system integration. It is also provided with a bootstrap circuit to reduce the number of external components required for the control circuitry.
