The LM5085SD/NOPB is an integrated intelligent power controller designed to provide control and protection for a variety of demanding applications. It is ideal for motor control, DC/DC switching regulators, and industrial automation and robotics applications. The LM5085SD/NOPB combines an internal voltage regulator, an internal adjustable current limit, an internal MOSFET driver, and a logic-controlled, cycle-by-cycle current limit into a single device. The integrated features of the LM5085SD/NOPB greatly reduce the design overhead and cost for motor control applications.
The LM5085SD/NOPB has an adjustable protected output voltage, adjustable protected current limit, adjustable soft start and adjustable protected slope compensation. The protected output voltage is adjustable from 0.8 V to 5.5 V, and the protected current limit is adjustable from 0.25 A to 40 A. The protected slope compensation can be adjusted from 0.1 V/μs to 1.0 V/μs, for different inductor size and dynamic response. The protected output voltage and current limit can be adjusted through external resistors and the protected slope compensation is adjustable through external capacitor.
The LM5085SD/NOPB also includes several features that make it ideal for motor control applications. It includes an internal MOSFET driver, which can drive external N-channel MOSFETs with up to 30V gate voltage. It also includes adjustable frequency jittering and noise reduction features, which eliminate electrical noise generated by the switching regulator and reduce switching losses. In addition, the LM5085SD/NOPB includes current-limiting features, which protect the MOSFETs from peak-current overloads, and a cycle-by-cycle current limit that limits the average current to predetermined levels.
In addition, the LM5085SD/NOPB provides protection for over-voltage, over-current, and thermal conditions. An external shutdown pin can be used to enable or disable the device, and an externally adjustable power-on-time delay can be used to limit the maximum on-time of the device. The device also includes a power-good indicator output that signals when the device is operating within the specified parameters. The robust protection features of the LM5085SD/NOPB make it well-suited for harsh industrial and robotic applications.
The LM5085SD/NOPB is capable of regulating the output voltage to within 0.1V across a wide input voltage range, with ± 0.5% accuracy. The device can also provide up to 25A peak output current, and can operate from a standard 10V-30V supply rail.
