The TIP127 is a darlington transistor which uses a base-collector voltage VBC of 60V with a peak collector current of 7A and a continuous collector current of 5A. It is also rated for a power dissipation of 120W and a thermal resistance of 1.25°C/W.

The TIP127 belongs to a family of transistors called bipolar junction transistors, or BJTs. BJTs are three-terminal active devices composed of two PN semiconductor junctions that allow control of current flow between the emitter and collector terminals. BJTs are considered current-controlled devices: A small input current applied to the base terminal controls a larger current between the emitter and collector.
