It is part of a larger family of components known as plastic coated transistors, or PCTs, which are so named due to the thin plastic coating that surrounds the semiconductor. As such, the TIP127FP is considered a plastic-coated, single bipolar junction transistor. In terms of its application field, the TIP127FP is an extremely versatile device with a wide variety of potential uses. It is capable of functioning as an amplifier, amplifier switching, sensing and switching, and signal generator. It is also an ideal solution for a number of embedded systems applications, such as controlling LEDs, solenoids, relays, and other low-power devices.
