The TIP132G is a PNP transistors specifically designed for usage in amplifier, switching and muting applications where low power dissipation andhigh current gain is needed. As part of the TIP series, the TIP132G is a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) which is the type of transistor that is found in most electronic devices and amplifiers.

The base of the TIP132G is made up of two semiconductor layers, one of them heavily doped to act as the emitter and the other lightly doped as the base. Between the two layers is a thin layer of material, typically silicon, which forms a diode between the emitter and the base. Current can only flow through the base when the voltage applied is greater than the barrier voltage of the diode.
