2SC5171 (LBS2MATQ,M) transistors are a variety of bipolar transistors, which are commonly used in power and thermal controlling applications. These transistors are also known by their more common name of Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT). In terms of BJT transistors, 2SC5171 belong to the category of single-transistors, meaning that the current gain of the transistors is not affected by the environment but rather just its base current.
2SC5171 transistors have a high power output. This makes them suitable for high-power applications, such as in power amplifiers or motor control circuits. 2SC5171 also have a low voltage drop of typically 2 V, meaning they can be used in low-voltage applications too. 2SC5171 have a high current gain of up to 250, making them suitable for automotive applications where high current gains are important.
