AO3402 is a single-channel N-channel enhancement mode MOSFET commonly used in a variety of electronic control and power applications.
The AO3402 MOSFET provides a broad range of features, including an integrated parasitic diode, an ultra-low RDS(on) value, high current operation, excellent thermal stability, low gate charge, and high input impedance.
The AO3402 is optimized for low voltage applications and is compatible with a wide array of load currents. It is also suitable for audio switching, DC load switching, telecom switching, and DC-DC converter applications.
The typical application field of the AO3402 MOSFET include, but are not limited to : Audio switching, DC load switching, telecom switching, and DC-DC converter applications. It can be used for motor speed control, motor switching, and various other power applications.
AO3402 MOSFET operation is based on the following principle. A MOSFET is an insulated-gate field effect transistor (IGFET). It has a gate electrode that controls current flow between the source and drain. When a voltage is applied to the gate, a field is created between the source and drain that modulates the impedance of the channel between them. This is known as the \'channel pinch effect\' and is the result of the Coulomb repulsion of electrons in the semiconductor material. As the voltage at the gate increases, more current can flow through the channel and the MOSFET is said to be \'on\'. As the voltage at the gate decreases, the current flow is reduced, and the MOSFET is said to be \'off\'.
The AO3402 can handle peak currents up to 75A and maximum avalanche energy of 300mJ which is suitable for a wide range of load currents. It also has a low gate-source threshold voltage of 2V, meaning the device can be operated even at low voltages. What’s more, the AO3402 features high input impedance and an ultra-low on-resistance of 0.1 ohms, and this allows efficient, low power, and low voltage operations. The built-in parasitic diode allows the AO3402 to take on high dv/dt rates and help protect against electro-static discharges. In terms of thermal dissipation, the AO3402 features a low thermal resistance junction-to-ambient and junction-to-case value of 1.6°C/W and 4.3°C/W respectively.
