AO3404A is a single N-Channel enhancement mode Field Effect Transistor (FETs) designed for switching and low impedance driver applications. It is designed for use with very low operating current and low input capacitance.

The structure of an FET makes it well-suited for use as switches. Essentially, by applying a voltage to the gate (G), current is either allowed to flow (in an N-channel FET) or inhibited (in a P-channel FET) between its source (S) and drain (D). In essence, the FET acts like a variable resistor, where the resistance it offers is determined by the voltage applied to the gate. This makes it ideal for use as a voltage-controlled switch for controlling the flow of power in circuits.

In addition to being used as switching devices, FETs can be used for low impedance driver applications. This is due to the fact that their gate capacitance is usually significantly lower than that of a comparably sized Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT). This lower capacitance allows FETs to provide high switching speeds with minimal power consumption.
