AOD514 is a kind of high-voltage, large-current, low-conductance, enhancement-mode vertical power MOSFET. AOD514 is an excellent choice for high efficiency applications since it has a very low on-resistance, moderate gate charge, and low gate-to-source capacitance. It is used in consumer electronics such as audio amplifiers, switching power supplies, motion control, industrial loads, switching DC-DC converters, and voltage regulator modules. It is also used in medical and automotive applications.AOD514 has a very small forward voltage drop, making it suitable for applications that require high efficiency and low power dissipation. It has a high gate threshold voltage, which allows for a wide range of operating voltages, from 5V to 50V. In addition to these features, AOD514 also has a high drain source breakdown voltage (BVDSS) of 120V and an ID max of 20A making it suitable for high current applications.AOD514 is a three pin device and typical connection is as follows: gate is connected to a suitable voltage, drain is connected to the load, and source is connected to ground. AOD514 has a very low on-resistance, typically as low as 16mohm making it suitable for high efficiency applications. It also has a low gate threshold voltage of 1.6V and a low gate-to-source capacitance of 1nF.The working principle of AOD514 is based on the fact that it is controlled by voltage and not current. When a voltage is applied to the gate terminal, a voltage is induced across the MOSFET and this generates an electric field. When the electric field reaches a certain magnitude, the electrons collective form a channel through the depletion layer. As long as the electric field is maintained, current will flow from drain to source and the MOSFET will be in the \'on\' state.The amount of current that can flow through AOD514 is limited by the amount of voltage applied to the gate. The higher the voltage on the gate, the greater the current that will be allowed to pass from drain to source, and vice versa. Therefore the current flow can be controlled by adjusting the gate voltage. As such, AOD514 can be used for various applications, such as switching power supplies, motor control, audio amplifiers, and voltage regulator modules.AOD514 also has a temperature protection feature, which will shut down the MOSFET if the temperature rises above 125C.
