The STB70N10F4 is designed to switch relatively low voltages and currents, typically at less than 10 Volts, but also has a high current capability of up to 70 Amperes. The device is also very efficient, as its thermal energy dissipation as a proportion of its total power is only 0.002%.
The working principle of the STB70N10F4 MOSFET is relatively simple to explain. When the FET is switched on, it is connected to a source voltage VGS. Because of the nature of the MOSFET, this voltage is proportionally multiplied to create a larger gate-source voltage, VGS*. This is the voltage which is then used to control the flow of current between the drain and the source of the FET. As this current increases, the resistance of the device also increases and the current is turned off. This basic principle is used for both on and off commands with the STB70N10F4.
