TIP31A is a NPN bipolar junction transistor (BJT) manufactured and designed by STMicroelectronics Inc. It is a complementary power transistor with a power dissipation of 1.5 A and a voltage rating of 45 V. It operates in high-frequency switching applications. STMicroelectronics designed this transistor for use in audio amplifiers, switching regulators, motor control systems, industrial motors, electronic lighting systems, white goods and other industrial electronic applications.

TIP31A is suitable for low-voltage, medium-power applications and can be used as a general-purpose switching transistor. Its maximum collector dissipation is 1.5 A which makes it suitable as a switch in higher current applications. It has an emitter-base voltage rating of 3 V and a collector-emitter voltage rating of 45 V.

TIP31A consists of a NPN transistor that has its emitter, base and collector connected to a metal tab lead. It is packaged in a TO-220-3 metal tab package which provides good noise isolation and thermal resistance. The typical gain of this transistor is 80, making it suitable for use as a driver in high-frequency switching applications. It has an on-resistance of 200 ohms and a storage temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees Celsius.
