The Tip36CW is a silicon NPN power transistor which is designed for use as a top-of-the-line general purpose amplifier and switch. It has an improved hFE linearity and higher DC current gain than other tip36CW transistors. The tip36CW has a lack of secondary breakdown and it is well suited for output stages of various audio amplifiers.

Working principle

The basic operation of a transistor is that of a current-controlled switch. The current flows through the transistor is first amplified in the Base, after which its amplified versions flows through the Collector-Emitter region. This is done by the Base biasing voltage which ensures that the base region of the transistor is kept in a forward bias condition. In this condition, the base region of the transistor can be made to conduct by controlling the amount of the current which flows through it. The amount of current flowing through the Base region is known as the Base current and it is controlled by the Base-Emitter voltage VBE. As the Base current is increased, the Collector current will also increase as it is dependent on the Base current. This Collector current is also known as the Drain current of the transistor.

The Tip36CW has a very high DC current gain, which is around 250. This makes the transistor ideal for use in high current amplifiers. The Tip36CW also has a built-in base-emitter protection diode which prevents the transistor from being damaged due to reverse biasing. The Tip36CW also features a low turn-on voltage of 2V, a low turn-off voltage of 0.5V and a low saturation voltage.
