The TIP33CG is a member of a family of silicon NPN epitaxial power transistors designed for general purpose switching and amplifying applications. The rated collector-emitter voltages of the TIP33CG are outstanding and its power dissipation ratings are higher than any bipolar devices. As a high-power transistor, the TIP33CG transistors can be used to amplify or switch both analog and digital signals, as well as in power switching applications. It is especially suitable for applications operating at or near full power supply voltage.

The TIP33CG is a single-junction, three-terminal NPN transistor with a base terminal, a collector terminal, and an emitter terminal. The base-collector junction is reverse-biased, the collector-emitter junction is forward-biased, and the base-emitter junction is forward-biased. The base-emitter junction forms a diode when forward-biased, and acts as a rectifying junction when reverse-biased. When biased and connected to a suitable load, the TIP33CG transistor starts to act as a switch, controlling the flow of current through the collector-emitter circuit.

As an NPN transistor, the TIP33CG works by controlling the current flow through the collector-emitter circuit. This is done by controlling the amount of current entering the base terminal of the transistor. When a small current enters the base terminal, a larger current is allowed to flow through the resistor, allowing the transistor to amplify signals. With a higher current entering the base, the transistor will operate as a switch, allowing or blocking a current flow through the collector-emitter circuit.

It is widely used in automotive, audio, radio, television, and other consumer electronics applications.
