When electricity is applied across the emitter and base terminals of a 2N2907A W/GOLD, the electrons in the n-doped semiconductor are attracted to the positively charged base terminal, leaving positively charged "holes" in the semiconductor. This causes a sudden increase in the current flowing from the base to the emitter terminal. The collector terminal is connected to a high positive voltage, which causes the current to flow from the base to the collector rather than to the emitter. This process is called current amplification because the collector current is amplified by multiplication due to the voltage applied at the collector. This voltage applied across the collector and emitter terminals is referred to as the "base-emitter voltage", or B-E voltage.
