The AOD4130 is a single N-channel 30V/2.1A MOSFET with embedded Gate Protection diode from Fairchild Semiconductor. It is an enhancement mode power MOSFET which requires a gate-source voltage between 6 and 10 volts for full saturation. The Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET) offers high power handling capability and excellent temperature stability with low on-state resistance. With its greater power handling capabilities, high switching speed, and low on-state resistance, the AOD4130 is ideally suitable for Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) applications as well as DC-DC converter, Off-Line power supplies, Motor drivers and Lighting.
The working principle of the AOD4130 is based on the properties of the MOSFET. MOSFETs utilize a charge-based mechanism in which electrical charge carriers, either electrons or holes, are injected into the device depending on the applied voltage across the Drain-Source region. When a small positive voltage is applied to the gate of the MOSFET, the voltage causes electrons to be attracted to the gate and creates an electric field. This electric field creates a charged region between the gate and the channel region which causes an inverse of the channel region. This inverse increases the conductivity in the channel. As the voltage is increased, the conductivity increases till the device is in the full saturation mode. In the full saturation mode, the drain-source resistance is very low and most of the current will flow from the drain to the source.
The AOD4130 MOSFET is widely used in many applications as it offers high power handling capability and excellent temperature stability with low on-state resistance. The MOSFET carries many advantages that make it suitable for use in applications such as DC-DC converters, Off-Line power supplies, Motor drivers, and even LED Lighting. Additionally, it is suitable for many more applications such as batter charger, cell phone, Bluetooth and other wireless devices.
