Working Principle

The operation of a bipolar transistor is based on the principle of junction formation. A junction is formed when two semiconductor materials with different conductivity types are placed in contact with each other. When a positive voltage is applied to the base junction of a NPN bipolar transistor, electrons flow from the emitter to the base, creating holes in the base region. These holes will then combine with electrons in the collector region, producing a hole current from base to collector. The hole current is then amplified to the supply voltage, producing a larger current flow through the collector-emitter circuit.

When the base voltage is decreased to below the base-emitter voltage (VBE) threshold, the current flow in the transistor is blocked. This occurs as a result of the depletion region around the junction which blocks the electron flow. This blocking action is described as the collector-emitter saturation voltage (VCE(sat)) and is one of the key parameters in the design of bipolar transistors.

The 2SD2345GSL is an NPN bipolar transistor with large collector-base voltage, which makes it particularly useful in applications with high input voltages. The transistor operates with a standard VCE(sat) ranging from 1.7V to 2.5V. This allows it to be used in darlington configurations and in multi-stage amplifiers.

The 2SD2345GSL is designed to offer low noise performance and high gain. It is available in a TO-126 package and is ideal for use in power amplifiers, switching applications, real-time clock supplies, and high-speed analog switching circuits. The transistor is also suitable for use in many other applications such as monitor controls, clock generators and telecommunications systems.
