The AOD425 is a single P-channel Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) designed to provide high-side power switching within systems. The device is an enhancement-type MOSFET with an “enhanced-Level-shifting gate”. It is designed to turn on quickly, consume low current, and operate at high temperature ranges.
The AOD425 is especially useful in applications where supply voltages are low in comparison to signal levels, like battery packs, and applications where low heating dissipation is needed for energy savings. It is also suited for systems that require redundancy, since it contains a diode attached between drain and source and provides protection from reverse current.
Mounted in a TO-252 package, the internally protected AOD425 provides all the features of advanced high-power, low dropout technology such as low on resistance, low output capacitance, and reverse current protection. It has a temperature range of -55°C to +175°C and a maximum voltage rating of 7.5 V (Id = 3A).
The working principle of the AOD425 is quite simple. When a voltage is applied to the gate, current begins to flow through the “enhanced-Level-shifting gate”, which creates an electric field in the dielectric material located between the source and the drain. This electric field is responsible for turning the transistor on and controlling the flow of current from source to drain. The voltage applied to the gate, which is known as the gate-source voltage (Vgs), is the primary control parameter for this device.
The AOD425 is typically used in power switching applications, particularly those that require a low-voltage operation or a low standby current. Examples include notebook computers, cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other digital devices. In addition, it can be used in automotive systems, such as ignition systems, or in industrial applications, such as motor control circuits.
