BF245B is a dual N-channel junction field effect transistor (JFET) specifically designed for general purpose switching and low-noise application. It integrates two transistors in one package, which could be treated independently or connected together in parallel. It is perfect suitable for the switching application in the audio industry. The working principle behind BF245B is quite simple. It is operated in depletion mode, which means that the inside channel is connected to the Vgs (gate-to-source voltage) with maximum possible concentration of charges. When the voltage applied to the gate goes below the channel voltage, the channel will be conductive. Thus due to the reverse-biased junction between the channel and the source, the gate-to-source voltage may control the conduction of the channel. The gate-to-drain voltage (Vgd) will increase when the conduction is on and it will eventually reach a point where no more current is conducted through. The junction field effect transistor has two main components, the source and the gate. The gate is where the voltage is applied and the source will determine the amount of current flowing through the channel.
The BF245B is mainly used in audio application by allowing the user to control sound levels with voltage. It could also be used in automatic gain control circuits for amplifiers, for negative feedback loops as well as for oscillator and amplifier biasing applications. It is used in automatic motor controls, switching and latching circuits and also used for voltage detection and various other control functions.
