The DS2712E+ is a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) designed to provide charging, level translation, and protection of a single cell Li-ion or Li-polymer battery. It features a switching buck converter to regulate the most efficient current into the battery during charging. Its very small 8 Lead MicroPak package is designed for reduced board space and higher integration potential. This product is ideal for mobile applications such as smart phones, PDAs and portable MP3 players, since it is available in multiple package types and requires only few external components. Additionally, the DS2712E+ includes status and protection circuitry to further enhance the safety of the system.

This product also provides safety features that protect against overvoltage, temperature and current conditions. The overvoltage protection feature shuts down the charger when the output voltage exceeds its preset threshold. The device also has temperature protection that monitors both the battery and charging die temperature, and a current protection feature that shuts down when the charging current exceeds the preprogrammed limit. Combined, these features protect the system from damage during an unexpected event.

The DS2712E+’s buck converter is designed to optimize the current limits to ensure the battery won’t be overcharged. The device automatically controls the output voltage, allowing a tight regulation of the charge current to match battery specifications.
