AON7414 Field-effect transistors (FETs) are three-terminal semiconductor devices featuring high input impedance at their gate terminals and are capable of voltage gain. The AON7414 is one of the most popular FETs and is widely used in a variety of applications.The AON7414 is a small-signal MOSFET in a tiny area-efficient 6-Lead DFN (Dual Flat No-Lead) package with an exposed pad. It offers a maximum Id of 1.3A and low RDS(on) (0.17ohms) typical at 4.5V. The device comes with a high level of protection including over-voltage and over-current protection, thereby allowing the latest power management solutions to become more efficient, robust and reliable. The device also features ultra- low gate charge (Qg) and internal diodes that increase its power efficiency.
The AON7414 is widely used in power applications such as motor control, half-bridge applications and power tools. It is also used in data application such as HDMI/DP port switch ICs, USB Type C switch ICs, docking station ICs and low power audio amplifiers. Additionally, it is well-suited for application in the industrial and automotive systems
The AON7414 operates on the principle of ‘enhancement mode’. This means that when the device is in its ‘off’ state, a voltage applied to the gate terminal will make it turn ‘on’. In a ‘depletion mode’, the reverse is true - the device will be ‘on’, and a voltage applied to the gate terminal will turn it ‘off’.
In the ‘on’ state, current can flow from drain to source, depending on the voltage applied to the gate and the characteristics of the device. The AON7414 is an N-Channel type FET and will bear a negative charge when in the ‘on’ state. This means that the drain assumes a voltage that is lower than the source, which is useful for applications such as using Peltier modules to induce cooling.
In order to ‘turn off’ the device, the voltage applied to the gate terminal has to be lowered. When the voltage reaches a certain predefined level, the device is ‘turned off’, and current cannot pass through it. This is the basic operating principle of the AON7414.
One of the main advantages of the AON7414 is the low gate charge (Qg). This feature allows the device to be turned on and off rapidly, thereby making it suitable for high-frequency switching applications. Additionally, the device has an on-resistance of 0.17 ohms and a low thermal resistance of 5.8 K/W. This makes it ideal for applications where efficiency and low-heat dissipation are both important.
