Working Principle

The 2N5428 is a PNP general purpose transistor which can be used in many applications. It operates in three modes: Cutoff mode, Active mode, and Saturation mode.

Cutoff Mode: In the Cutoff mode, the Collector-Base junction is reverse biased, meaning that the current flow is blocked. This is because the voltage between base and collector is greater than the base voltage being applied.

Active Mode: In the Active mode, the Collector-Base junction is forward biased and there is current flow through the transistor. The current is proportionate to the voltage applied to the base.

Saturation Mode: In the Saturation mode, the Collector-Base junction is forward biased and the current flow is maximized. This is because the voltage between base and collector is equal to the base voltage being applied.
