The 2SK3372GTL is a n-channel, depletion-mode general-purpose field effect transistor (FET) which is best used for small signal amplification and low-frequency switching applications. It is named after its manufacturer, Toshiba Semiconductor operations. The 2SK3372GTL is a junction field-effect transistor (JFET) and has a field-plate structure that provides excellent gain and low thermal resistance.
This transistor has many applications in battery-powered equipment, such as automatic gain control, analogue to digital (A/D) converters, and power amplifiers. It is also used in audio preamps, low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), switch matrices, and some medical-electrodes.
The 2SK3372GTL is 4-pin transistor that requires very low power consumption, is very reliable, and has almost no drift due to thermal or environmental changes. It has a voltage rating of 60V, a collector-emitter voltage rating of 5V, an on-resistance of 0.3 ohms, and an operating temperature range of -55 to +150°C.
The working principle of JFETs is based on the fact that when a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal, there is an increase in electrical current from source to drain, and consequently, a depletion region is formed near the gate. As the gate-to-source voltage (VGS) increases, more current is allowed to flow through the channel, which further increases the depletion region and reduces the overall trans-conductance. This phenomenon is known as source-to-gate voltage feedback and is responsible for the FET\'s excellent gain and current-handling capability.
In a JFET, the drain current is not affected by the gate voltage. The transistor\'s gate-to-drain capacitance, or “capacitance between gate and drain” (CGD) is controlled by the gate voltage. As the voltage is increased, the transfer gate capacitance increases, which reduces the drain current.
The 2SK3372GTL is an ideal choice for small signal applications, as it has both excellent gain and low power consumption. Its field-plate structure provides a better quality of current sourcing, while its low-noise preamp and switch characteristics make it very suitable for low-noise signal amplification.
