AOT240L is a power field effect transistor, which belongs to single-sized MOSFET. It is manufactured by Taiwan Advanced Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd. The negative lead is the drain (D) of the transistor, the positive lead is the source (S) of the transistor and the middle lead is the gate (G) of the transistor. The maximum drain source voltage (±Vdss) of AOT240L is 55V and the maximum drain current (Id) is 12A.
The field effect transistor (FET) is a three-terminal non-linear voltage controlled semiconductor device, and its cross-section is similar to that of a bipolar transistor. It can be used as a switch and amplifier by controlling the voltage at the gate terminal. The shape of the terminal is similar to the metal gate of the MOS transistor and is an insulated gate field effect transistor. The advantages of field effect transistors are small input capacitance (Ciss) and low input impedance (Rds). In addition, they can work in the linear region to provide voltage gain and current gain.
AOT240L is a single N-channel MOSFET that works based on the power MOSFET principle. A power MOSFET is similar to an insulated gate field effect transistor in that the gate terminal is insulated from the semiconductor material, but it has a unique structure. The gate electrode is located on the insulated oxide layer, but the drain and source electrodes are directly connected to the semiconductor material. Each channel consists of two opposite conductivity types, one of which is electrically floating, which is called the channel. The current flow between the drain and the source terminals is controlled by the electric field generated by the gate terminal. The electric field will cause the channel to form an inversion layer between the source and drain, which produces a channel between the source and the drain, so that electrons can flow from the source to the drain and from the drain to the source, allowing the power MOSFET to operate as a switch.
An AOT240L is often used to control the power energy of large-scale motor systems, such as computers, robotic arms, elevators, home security systems and so on. In order to achieve the best energy conservation and guarantee the motor performance, there is usually the AOT240L switch between the motor and the power source. During the processes of motor operation, the working principle of AOT240L will come into effect. When the switch is closed, the gate is charged with the input voltage, and the inversion layer will form in the semiconductor material. At this point, the current from the source to the drain can flow freely, and the motor receives enough power to operate normally. When the switch is opened, the gate voltage is set to zero, and the electrons will be not able to flow from the source to the drain, so the motor will stop working.
The use of AOT240L in the motor system applications not only improves the speed and efficiency of motors, but also reduces the power loss and noise. The other advantage is its cost-effectiveness. In this way, the AOT240L can reduce the cost of motor repair, and extend the service life of motors.
