The module is a type of IGBT “Intelligent Power Module” (IPM), which is made up of an integrated circuit and discrete components. As an integrated block of circuit materials, the module contains a single mounting area, where all the components inside the module fit. It helps reduce the original size and weight of the components, in turn helps to reduce the space needed for the system, making the installation more efficient.The IRG7T15FF12Z is suitable for applications such as low frequency AC/DC inverters, voltage converter, AC/DC choppers, and DC/AC converters. It is used for different purposes such as for motor drive applications, solar charging, welding machine motors, and UPS systems.Working Principle
The IRG7T15FF12Z works by switching power between the two terminals of the module, and works in three stages. Initially both terminals of the module are at zero voltage, and power is then switched by applying a voltage to one of the terminals. This action causes a current to flow through the module, which converts the power.The first stage of switching is known as the Lower Switching Element (LSE) stage, in which a gate voltage is applied to the module which acts as a switch (ON/OFF). When the gate voltage is between 5V – 10V a small current of 1A – 10A will flow through the module. In the second stage of the switching process, known as the Upper Switching Element (USE) stage, a higher voltage is applied to the module which causes an increase in current through the module. During this stage, the current can reach up to 400A.The third stage is the Off-state. During this stage, the applied voltage is reduced to a level where the current flowing through the module is low, resulting in the module returning to an Off-state.Conclusion
