The IXGP24N60C4 is an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) that belongs to a single, high Voltage, low inductance type. It is manufactured by IXYS Corporation and is designed to be used in various applications like, electrical drives, welding, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and AC / DC motor control, etc. The IXGP24N60C4 suits many applications owing to its special features like its wide operating voltage range from 600V to 2400V, low conduction losses, minimal turn-on/off delays, high speed switching, high temperature operation and ease of customization. This IGBT also has several support devices attached to it to make it a complete package. The IXGP24N60C4 IGBT has a breakdown voltage, Vce (sat) of 1650 Volts, the output current rating of the device is near 24 Amperes and the gate drive voltage ranges is 15 - 20 Volts. The device has a maximum junction temperature of 175°C. This respective IGBT has a second breakdown current of 50 Amperes, with a critical diode on state voltage of 2.8 Volts and a third breakdown current of 20 Amperes. The IXGP24N60C4 IGBT works on high power ranging from 60 to 1200 Watts and high speed switching, ranging from 100 to 400 kHz. It has totem pole gate driving ability and soft switching capability to reduce switching noise and power loss. The IGBT of the IXGP24N60C4 has a soft and hard dv/dt rating of 3.75 and 5.5V/μsec, respectively. It also has a minimal gate charge of 2400N to reduce its turn-on/off loss. In addition, the device has anti-parallel comparison fast recovery diodes that protect it from fault currents. The working principle of IXGP24N60C4 IGBT is based on the conventional Bipolar Transistors (BJTs). When a sufficiently large voltage is applied to the gate of an N-Channel MOSFET, the current starts flowing between the drain and the source, thus resulting to the drain-source current. When the gate voltage is increased further, the IGBT reaches a state known as \'saturation\', which is a combined characteristic of MOSFET and a BJT. Saturation is a state in which the IGBT turns on and is able to handle large currents between the drain and source with a very low voltage drop.When the IGBT is turned off, the gate signal is greatly reduced, the gate-source voltage reaches zero, so that no current can pass through the MOSFET. Since the drain-source voltage is greater than the threshold voltage, the BJT is in cutoff mode, therefore no current passes from collector to emitter. Hence, the IGBT is completely turned off. The IXGP24N60C4 IGBT can be utilized for multiple applications, such as for switching in oil pumps and gas generators, for AC and DC electric motor control, for UPS systems, and for high frequency or pulse operation. It is also used in welding and in power supplies.
