MMBF4393 is a kind of JFET transistors, manufactured by ON Semiconductor in the TO-92 package. It consists of five pins, G, S, D, G1 and B.   • Logarithmic Amplifier – Used to convert analog signals into digital signals.
  • Frequency Shifter – Used for shifting the frequency of a signal.

Working Principle

MMBF4393 consists of five pins, G, S, D, G1 and B. G and S are the gate and source respectively. D is the drain, and G1 and B are the gate and source respectively.This transistor works based on the principle of reverse-bias of gate and source. When a negative voltage is applied to the gate and source, the channel created by them between the drain and source gets pinched off, thus decreasing the current flow. This results in an enhancement mode transistor, where the output is inversely proportional to the input.When the gate and source are connected, they form a reverse-biased diode. This diode prevents the transistor from saturating, allowing the output to be relatively linear over the input voltage ranges.
