Application Field

Unlike traditional MOSFETs, the STFW40N60M2 uses a Nitride self-insulating material to isolate its gate and source/drain terminal. This helps reduce the needed gate-source voltage and minimizes gate-source capacitance. As a result, switching losses are also minimized. In addition, the source/drain voltage is lower compared to other FETs as the drain to source breakdown voltage is very high. Thus, this device has better immunity to voltage or current spiking.
When the gate voltage is increased, the device is switched on and the two terminals are connected electrically. The drain current continues to flow until the drain voltage is reduced to below a certain threshold voltage, at which point the device is switched off.
The STFW40N60M2 can also handle extremely high temperatures as its gate oxide and drain junction are designed to withstand high temperature over long period of time. In addition, the device has an industry-leading high gate charge and low on-state resistance, allowing for higher frequency operation.
