The BSC0901NSIATMA1 is a single N-Channel Field Effect Transistor (FET). An FET works by being used to switch one of two power sources situated in its drain and source terminals. The FET is not an actual switch but rather an amplifier which can control the amount of current that can flow through it, for instance, turning a light bulb on or off. The FET is normally off and the gate must be triggered in order to turn it on. When power is applied to the gate of the FET it forms a depletion region at the interface between the gate and the channel. This depletion region greatly reduces the current from flowing between the source and the drain. When the gate voltage is decreased then the depletion region begins to shrink, allowing more current to flow through the channel. This makes the FET an ideal device for controlling current because it can be switched on and off in a fraction of a second and allow precise control of the current.
