IRF614STRR is a single N-Channel enhancement mode power MOSFET which is designed to maximize the performance of a wide range of switching applications. It is built using an advanced N-V-T MOSFET process to provide superior figure of merit, improved performance over a wide range of operating conditions, and a very low on-resistance.
IRF614STRR application field involves different applications, such as switching power supply, distribution power system and motor control. Due to its high current operating capabilities, the IRF614STRR power MOSFET can be used in applications as DC to DC conversion as well as DC AC conversion, like solar and lighting controls.
IRF614STRR can be used for audio frequency, high frequency and pulse applications, such as step-down, buck converters, DC-DC converters, battery chargers, DC motor drives, H-bridge circuits and output stage of an amplifier. Its ability to operate at relatively high frequency makes it suitable for burst mode digital power applications.
On the other hand, the fundamental working principle of the IRF614STRR can be understood as the application of voltage on either the gate and drain terminals. When voltage is applied to the gate, the channel conducts electrons between the source and the drain, allowing current to flow. When the source is connected to a lower voltage, it will form a p-n-p type channel (an inversion layer) in the channel region. Since electrons are attracted to the surface, it allows current to flow in either direction.
Moreover, due to the higher mobility of electrons, the resistivity of the inversion layer is far lower than that of the body, thus making the device “on” even if a small amount of voltage is applied to the gate terminal. The on state is characterized by the drain current flowing and exponentially increasing until it reaches its maximum limit when the gate source and source drain voltage reaches its pin rated voltage.
Additional benefit is that even under abnormal operating temperatures, the device can still perform fairly well, compared to other standard MOSFETs.
