Introduction

SI4431-B1-FMR is a system-in-package (SiP) high-performance wireless transceiver that offers best-in-class RF performance, ultra-low-power and low bill-of-materials (BOM) costs. It provides a single-chip solution for wireless applications operating in the 300-960 MHz frequency bands. It is based on the SiLabs’ highly successful Si4431 transceiver IC and provides a great platform for the RF engineer to customize.

Application field

The SI4431-B1-FMR is ideal for many wireless applications requiring low-power consumption, superior RF performance and small BOM size. It is perfect for applications in the automotive, industrial, medical, consumer and IoT sectors. Working Principle

The SI4431-B1-FMR is composed of the Si4431 transceiver IC that communicates using the digital radio infrastructure communication protocol. The radio consists of a high-performance, low-cost integrated baseband processor, an analog interfacealtering between two separate RF transmitter and receiver paths, and a matching network that integrates an antenna switch and amplifiers to filter and amplify the radio frequency signal from the antenna and down-convert it to the baseband signal. On the transmit path, the baseband signal is up-converted to the radio frequency and amplified by the matching network, and then filtered to the output transformer on the transmit path. On the receive path, the RF signal is amplified and filtered to the receive transformer that will then down-convert the RF signal to the baseband signal.The core of the Si4431-B1-FMR is a fully integrated CMOS transceiver radio IC with low power consumption and 9.6kbps data rate that can support asynchronous data throughput of up to 10kbps. The radio IC is fully optimized for a range of frequency bands in the 300-to-960 MHz frequency range. It includes a data controller, a 24-bit instruction width modulator/demodulator (M/D), 2 power-controlled signal amplifiers, and a medium frequency pass filter. In addition, the radio IC is able to decode and detect multiple RF modulation types, including FSK, OOK, and GFSK. The transceiver is powered by a single 3V power supply and has a receiving sensitivity of -126 dBm, and high-fidelity transmit power of +17 dBm. The radio IC provides significant flexibility in terms of frequency bandwidth and data rate selection along with a wide range of configuration options.
