AO4492 is an N Channel Enhancement Mode Field Effect Transistor (FET) made with a ferrite substrate and is ideal for high speed switching applications. The device has a maximum drain current of 5 Amps (ID-MAX) and a breakdown voltage of 100 Volts (VDSS). The FET is designed to be operated in saturation (SAT) and is suitable for a variety of applications including DC-DC converters, motor drives, small signal amplifying and switching circuits, power supply for distributed audio and digital systems and automotive applications such as car audio and LED drivers.
Working Principle
AO4492 FETs are usually operated in their saturation region and their high breakdown voltage allows higher current flow and faster switching. The FET works on the principle of a MOS capacitor where an electric field is applied to the gate which controls the resistance between the source and drain. The voltage between the gate and source, which is known as VGS (Gate-Source voltage) determines the resistance between the source and drain. When a positive VGS is applied, the resistance between the source and drain will be lower and current will be allowed to flow. When a negative VGS is applied, the resistance between the source and drain will be higher and current is blocked.
