AO4498L is a metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) passed the qualification of AEC-Q101 and E2 standard, which is developed by Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Inc. (AOS). It is a monolithic, single cascode Kelvin sense transistors with drain-source and bulk-source Kelvin source pins. AO4498L is designed to provide efficient and low-cost solutions for power switch applications with the features of the high voltage, high performance and excellent thermal stability.
The application field of AO4498L is mainly for isolated high voltage power control applications where a high voltage isolation, reliable operation and fast response are necessary. It is suitable for load switching, automotive motor control, seamer motors, robotic joints and drive circuits, as well as commercial and industrial lighting systems and variable frequency drives.
AO4498L consists of a low side N-Channel MOSFET and a high side P-Channel MOSFET which are combined in a common package for ease of use. The N-Channel MOSFET is used for quickly turning on and the P-Channel MOSFET is used for switching off with low on-state resistance (RDS (ON)). Both transistors use Kelvin source pin to sense the source terminal and guarantee high accuracy of the temperature of MOSFET.
Working principle of AO4498L is quite simple. When the gate voltage is higher than the threshold voltage (VGS(th)), the N-Channel MOSFET will be turned on and the P-Channel MOSFET will be turned off. Both the drain-source and bulk-source Kelvin source pins enable the sense of the source voltage and enable the accurate temperature prediction for MOSFET. When the gate voltage is lower than the threshold voltage, the N-Channel MOSFET will be turned off and the P-Channel MOSFET will turn on. AO4498L has a high blocking voltage of 600V and a low on-state resistance of 1.8 mΩ, allowing it to switch quickly at high voltages with low power loss.
The combination of high voltage and high performance of AO4498L makes it ideal for a variety of high power control applications. The Kelvin source pins enable an accurate temperature measurement for the MOSFET and ensure reliable operation.
