Working Principle

The device works based on the principle of field-effect transistor (FET) operation, in which an electric field is applied to an insulating material such as a silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer between two conducting plates (the source and drain electrodes, also known as the ‘gate’). This electric field can induce a current to flow through the material, and thus the device operates as a switch – when the gate voltage is at one level, the device is on, and when the gate voltage is at the opposite level, the device is off.

The DMP3037LSS-13 is operated in an enhancement mode, meaning that the P-channel FET is always off (source-grounded) initially. No matter what voltage is applied to the gate when the device is off, no current will flow in the drain. It will remain off until the gate voltage exceeds the device\'s threshold voltage, at which point the device will turn on, allowing current to flow in the drain.
