Working Principle

The R6020225HSYA single phase bridge rectifier diode module works on the principle of converting alternating current to direct current with minimum current drop. It is constructed of four diodes connected in a bridge circuit which converts incoming AC voltage to DC voltage. The diodes can be forward biased (that is allowing current in one direction only) or reverse biased (blocking current in one direction only). The bridge rectifier consists of two diode circuits, making it possible to use both positive and negative polarities of the incoming AC voltage. This results in the smoothing of the output voltage waveform. During the first half of the cycle, the upper and lower diode circuits will be forward biased, so the current will flow in the same direction and the output voltage is positive. The second half of the cycle will reverse the current direction and the output voltage is negative.

The diodes are made up of PN junction – a region between two different types (p-type and n-type) of semiconductor materials. When a PN junction is forward biased, the depletion region of the junction allows current to pass through. When the PN junction is reverse biased, the depletion region increases and does not allow any current to pass through.
