The STD36NH02L is a 3-terminal N-channel depletion-mode MOSFET specifically manufactured for low power applications. It functions as a switch to control the flow of current in electrical circuits. The STD36NH02L’s application field includes many areas such as computing, automotive, and industrial. The working principle of this device is based on the principle of “field effect”, where the flow of electrons between two media is determined by an electric field.
The STD36NH02L is part of a larger category of MOSFETs known as “Single Transistors”, which generally feature three terminals that control the flow of current. The most common terminals are the “gate”, “source”, and “drain”. The “gate” terminal is where the control voltage is applied to control the flow of current in the device. The “source” terminal is connected to the positive (anode) voltage, while the “drain” is connected to the negative (cathode) voltage. The amount of current that will flow through the device is controlled by applying a voltage to the “gate” terminal, which is referred to as the gate-source voltage (Vgs). According to the polarity of the voltage applied to the gate, the STD36NH02L will either act as an “on” or “off” switch. Through this mechanism, the power applied to the device can be regulated.
When the Vgs is between 0 and –4 volts, the device will remain in an “off” state and no current will flow through the STD36NH02L. This is because the threshold voltage for the device (Vgs(th)), the amount of voltage that the “gate” needs to be at in order for current to flow, is between 0 to –4 volts. When Vgs>Vgs(th), the device will switch to an “on” state and current will be allowed to flow. The amount of current it will allow to flow is determined by the gate- source voltage (Vgs), which is the difference between the “gate” and “source” voltages.
When used in high power application such as computing, car batteries, or audio systems, the STD36NH02L can handle currents up to 2 amperes and ratings of up to 55 volts. The device has a maximum operating temperature of 175 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for applications in hostile environments. As it belongs to the class of single transistors, the device provides high reliability and low noise when operating, which are ideal for low power applications. As a result, the STD36NH02L is an ideal choice for low power applications such as automotive, computing, and industrial, as it provides reliable functionality at an affordable cost.
