The AOT404 is an application of a n-channel depletion MOSFET (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor, or MOSFET). As a standard power transistor, it is used in a wide range of applications, including amplifying and switching digital and analog signals. It provides high voltage resistance and excellent noise immunity, making it particularly useful for applications that require the highest level of reliability.

General Description

The AOT404 is an n-channel depletion MOSFET designed to provide high-speed switching and low linearity. The device is designed to operate as a switch in low-voltage and low-power applications. It has a single terminal, with an insulated gate, and is capable of accepting both AC and DC signals. The AOT404 is designed to withstand a wide range of operating temperatures, up to +150°C. Design

The AOT404 is a three-terminal MOSFET device that consists of the source, gate, and drain terminals. The gate is insulated from the source and drain by the oxide field oxide layer. A gate voltage is applied to the gate and adjusts the conductivity of the channel. If the gate voltage is positive-going, electrons are forced out of the channel and the channel becomes more resistive. If the gate voltage is negative-going, electrons are attracted to the channel and the channel becomes more conductive. The resistance of the channel is determined by the applied gate voltage. Therefore, the MOSFET can be used as a switch ON-OFF control circuit.

Operation

At low drain to source voltages, the device works in the linear region. This means that the current flowing through the device is in proportion to the voltage applied to the gate. This is known as the ‘ohm’s Law’ region of operation. It is the region in which the device is used for amplification. At high drain to source voltages, the device works in its saturation region. This is the region where the drain current is independent of the gate voltage. In this region, the device acts as a switch. If the gate voltage is positive then the MOSFET is ON and if it is negative then the device is OFF. One important feature of the MOSFET is that it can latch. The device turns ON when the gate is of sufficient magnitude and when the gate voltage is reduced the device remains ON until the voltage is removed.
