Working Principle

The AO4407B is an enhancement-mode metal-oxide-metal field-effect transistor (MOSFET). It is capable of switching a range of voltages from 6V to 20V. The device features an extraordinarily low gate threshold voltage (VGS(th), as low as 0.5 volts), making it suitable for high-side and low-side switching applications.

The MOSFET works by using a gate terminal to connect the drain and source terminals. This creates an electric field between the gate and the other two terminals. When the gate threshold voltage is reached, the electric field creates an inversion layer in the drain-side region of the chip, allowing current to flow. When the gate voltage drops below the threshold voltage, the field is removed, and the gate-to-drain current stops flowing.

The MOSFET also features a low on-resistance value (RDS(on)) of 6.5Ω. This low resistance value helps reduce power loss and saves power while the device is in operation.
